After a very disappointing and devastating 3-0 loss to Penncrest on Thursday the Aces were looking to atone, and the Marple Newtown Tigers were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Seventeen minutes into the game LM junior Quinn Vagnoni scored from a scrum in front of the Marple net and gave the Aces a 1-0 lead. Just 3 minutes later the Tigers tied it up on a beautiful blast from 20 yards out. With 5 minutes left in the 1st half Vagnoni scored his 2nd goal, again coming from in close, and it was 2-1 LM at halftime.
In the 2nd half the Aces came out pumped and junior Anthony Haines scored a highlite reel goal from well outside the 18 for a 3-1 lead. LM seemed to be moving the ball more confidently and just 7 minutes later sophomore striker Ryan Tillman took advantage of a Marple keeper mistake with a great hustle goal. It was junior Roee Baror's turn next, scoring off a corner midway thru the 2nd half. And Ryan Tillman got his 2nd goal of the game just a few minutes later to make the final 6-1.
This was a real confidence builder for the Aces and kept them in the Central League hunt. Next Tuesday LM hosts sister school Harriton at 3:45 PM on the turf at Arnold Field. More on this rivalry in the next blog.
