The Aces hosted a very athletic & well skilled Penn Wood team this afternoon. Just 5 minutes in LM senior Ryan Tillman took a long thru ball but shot just wide. Three minutes later sophomore Tim O'Hare got pulled down in the box and the Aces were awarded a PK. Senior Alex Moureaud got the call but the Penn Wood keeper made the save. However, the rebound went to a hustling Ryan Tillman and he stuffed it home for a 1-0 LM lead. With 17 minutes left Penn Wood got their only shot of the half but keeper Sebastian Jenkins alertly made the save. Despite having a lot of speed & good ball skills, Penn Wood had trouble working for the open shot in the offensive third. It could be that the Aces' back line had a lot to do with that. 1-0 at halftime.
In the 2nd half both LM & Penn Wood played their defense high, so most of the early play was in the middle third as neither either team could penetrate. Within a 5 minute span the Aces would get 2 great header opportunities but could not convert. They were now getting all the offensive chances but couldn't get the put away goal. Fortunately they didn't need it, as the game ended 1-0 LM, giving Sebastian Jenkins & company their 9th shutout.
Tomorrow the Aces will make up the rained out Upper Merion game from earlier in the season. It will be on the turf at Arnold Field at 3:30 PM. LM already has sown up a spot in the District One playoffs, but they're flirting with the 6th seed (which earns a bye and a home game in the 2nd round). A win tomorrow would certainly help their chances. More on the playoff picture in tomorrow's blog.
