In the 1st Semi-Final last night District 3's #2 seed Elizabethtown faced District 1 #1 seed W.C. Henderson. There were no goals scored in regulation or the two golden goal 15 minute overtime periods. In the PK shootout Elizabethtown came out on top 4-2.
In the other Semi, District 1 #2 seed Conestoga defeated District 7 champion N. Allegheny 1-0. So it's Elizabethtown vs. Conestoga in the 2016 State Final on Saturday at Hershey Park Stadium.
If Henderson would have beat Elizabethtown, it would have been the 4th time in the 44-year history of the PIAA State Playoffs that 2 teams from the same District played each other in the State Final. In every one of the previous 3 times both teams were from District 1. Conestoga was involved in 1 of them, and Lower Merion in 2 of the 3.
1984 - Lower Merion lost 1-0 to Neshaminy
1986 - Strath Haven beat W.C. East 1-0
1988 - Lower Merion lost 3-1 to Conestoga
Conestoga is looking for their 3rd State Title, winning in 1988 against LM, and again in 2011, beating District 7 powerhouse Upper St. Clair 1-0.
